Jenny Beck, born August 23, 1985

 

Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, Bachelor of Music, 2008

Studied composition with Michael Hersch, and computer music with Greg Boyle

Other mentors include Steve Mackey, Chris Theofanidis, Libby Larson, Robert Sirota, Chen Yi, Allain Gaussin, Andrew Bon, Tom Benjamin, Isabelle Duha, and Ladislav Kubik

Special interests include (but are not limited to!) multimedia installations, opera and other vocal writing, solo works, interactive electronics (including video and anything else), orchestral and instrumental chamber music, early music, and original music for film.

 

Attended the Conservatoire Americaine in Fontainebleau, France, and the Czech-American Music Institute in Prague.

Recipient of two Peabody Career Development Grants and a Mu Phi Epsilon Summer Scholarship.

Second Prize in the 2008 Prix D'Ete Composition Competition for Meditation on Torment and Triumph.

Sings with the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, including a production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

Member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Gamma Chapter. Participated in the Junior Bach project: teaching composition lessons to inner city kids, who then get to hear their pieces performed by Peabody musicians.
