Jenny Beck, born August 23, 1985

 

Jenny Beck grew up in rural Pennsylvania where the sounds of the woods at night stirred her imagination at a young age. She went on to study composition at the Peabody Conservatory and Rutgers University. Jenny recently participated in the Weill Music Institute Professional Training Workshop with Kaija Saariaho and Anssi Karttunen where her string trio The Tide Will Take You was performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Jenny has also been chosen as a 2012 Tanglewood Music Center Composition Fellow. Past engagements include the American Conservatory in France, the Czech-American Music Institute, and the HighSCORE Music Festival in Italy where she was awarded the Top Composer Prize in 2010. Other awards include two Peabody Career Development Grants, 2nd Prize in the 2008 Prix D'Ete Composition Competition at Peabody, an American Composers Forum DC Subito grant, and a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. Jenny currently lives in Philadelphia.
